David Martin Inspires Pittsburgh Jingle Bell Run Fundraising
David Martin is making a big impact for people with arthritis in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.
The Santa-costume wearing, fundraising master, all-in volunteer is senior vice president of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center hospital division. He is immersed in the healthcare world and sees how much arthritis impacts young and old.
“But the more I saw firsthand how this disease impacts families, the more I knew I had to get involved” David said. “There are so many adolescents who are misdiagnosed or under-diagnosed and who are living in pain and need help.”
Until he began volunteering with the Arthritis Foundation, David said he knew little about the true impact of the disease. Now, after seeing how devastating arthritis can be – especially for children – David is passionate about helping find a cure and has dedicated time to raising awareness and funds.
Last year he served as 2015 Pittsburgh Jingle Bell Run corporate chair, helping the Pittsburgh Jingle Bell Run raise more than $160,000. David, pictured above as Santa, helped raise close to $57,000 of that total - $45,500 from sponsorship and more than $11,000 from team donations.
This year he is just as active, serving on the executive committee and securing a $25,000 sponsorship—with more to come.
“Participating in the Jingle Bell Run was an extremely moving and rewarding experience,” David said. “The number of people that came out to show support for their loved ones and for the Foundation was amazing.”
On Dec. 3, David will be running in Pittsburg’s Jingle Bell Run, wearing his Santa suit and supporting the Foundation and raising awareness for people with arthritis.
